Election date: 11 February 1899. Poll was required for Central Ward only because in East and West Wards the number of nominations equalled the number of positions. (1)

(8) Ald. Terry resigned early 1900, twelve months before his term expired which created an Extraordinary vacancy that was filled by Henry St John Tucker. It was minuted at the meeting of 24 January 1900 that the Mayor had received the resignation of Edward Terry as an alderman of Ryde Council
(9) Ald. Terry was elected Mayor at a Special meeting on 15 February 1899.
A Special meeting was held 27 September 1899 to elect a new Mayor as Ald. Terry had resigned from the position of Mayor at meeting of 22 September 1899. Ald. Hibble elected Mayor at this Special meeting for remainder of Ald. Terry’s mayoral term

The Municipality of Ryde and the Municipality of Eastwood amalgamated on 1 January 1949.
Aldermen were elected for three years but in the first few years of the Council one alderman from each ward was obliged to resign, determined by who had received the least votes at the first election. Thereafter, as their three year term expired, the aldermen would retire but could seek re-election.
