Samuel Wilson Jordan, 1832-1901

Personal information
He and his wife Mary Ann had 7 children.  Two died as infants.  In 1876, he lost both his wife and daughter and in 1893 his 27 year old son Arthur drowned in the Nepean River.

Qualifications, occupations and interests
He was the publican of the Steamboat Hotel & Royal Hotel.  He helped petition for the establishment of Ryde Municipality, worked on improving local roads, served as an alderman, and was twice elected Mayor of Ryde in the 1890's. He was a very prominent Orange-man, and was the founder of the No. 6 Loyal Orange Lodge, Gladesville.
