Thomas Smedley Pidding was a prominent early figure in the Ryde area, serving as a telegraph inspector, long-serving Alderman (1889–1891, 1893–1898), and Mayor of the Municipality of Ryde in 1896. He lived in a historic local cottage named "Euroma" and is remembered today through local landmarks like Pidding Park in Ryde
