ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

NotesHatton's Flat was the terminus of the Ryde line of the Sydney tramway system, opened in June 1910. A street lamp commemorating the sod-turning ceremony for the line was erected at the intersection of Church Street and Parkes Street (now Blaxland Road) and unveiled on December 12 1908. A celebration lunch followed at the Town Hall. The monument, minus lamp, was later shifted to an island in Devlin Street at Hatton's Flat, and later still relocated in its present position at the bus terminus at Ryde.
