Tramway Monument

Date Created circa 1908DescriptionThis monument was unveiled in December 1908 to commemorate the first 'turning of the sod' for the extension of the tramway to Ryde.
It was originally located at the intersection of Church Street and Blaxland Road, Ryde but was later moved to an island in Devlin Street at Hatton's Flat. During the construction of the Ryde Civic Centre it was relocated to the bus terminus at Ryde, later to grounds at the southern end of the Civic Centre.
In 2017 it was re-located to its current position; on the footpath at the corner of Church Street and Blaxland Road, not far from its original locatio
