The Eastwood Hotel at 115 Rowe Street, Eastwood has been a prominent local landmark since the early twentieth century. The site was originally occupied by Moore’s Eastwood Hotel, a timber hotel located on the corner of Railway Parade and Rowe Street, which was operating by the 1910s and served as an important community gathering place. The local Masonic Lodge also held its first meetings there in 1885.
As Eastwood experienced significant residential and commercial growth during the 1930s, Tooth & Co. commissioned a complete redevelopment of the hotel. The current building, designed by the architectural firm Rudder and Grout, was completed in 1939 in the popular Art Deco style.
Today, the Eastwood Hotel is recognised as an important example of twentieth-century architecture and is listed on the Australian Institute of Architects (NSW) Register of Significant Architecture.
