Lunar New Year Festival, 2009-2025
The City of Ryde is home to a large and vibrant community who embrace their own unique Lunar New Year traditions. In 2010 the City hosted an exciting and colourful event that was very well supported by the community. The event was widely acknowledged as a big success with a crowd over 10,000 attending during the day.
In the week prior to the celebration a number of events are usually scheduled to be conducted by community organizations, hosting morning teas, luncheons, games, talks, events and local celebrations in different parts of Ryde. The main celebration day is held in Eastwood and includes pole jumping lions, dragons, fire-crackers, singing, martial arts, dance and music performances from local schools, and food stalls. Federal, State MPs and Ryde Councillors are usually in attendance along with many business and community leaders.
The event, originally held in the Eastwood Plaza, moved to its present location at Eastwood Oval, which is part of Eastwood Park in 2019.
