Bayview Hotel

The Bayview Hotel has been a prominent Gladesville landmark since 1879, when the original hotel was built on land that had originally been granted to convict artist John Doody. It was the third hotel established in Gladesville, reflecting the growth of the village along the Great North Road, now Victoria Road.

The original hotel was a substantial two-storey building, but over the years it was considerably altered. When this section of Victoria Road was widened, the old hotel was replaced by the present building, constructed between 1928 and 1934 on the new road alignment. The surviving hotel is a two-storey building in the Inter-War Free Classical style, distinguished by its symmetrical façade and central arched balcony. 

Another historical account dates construction of the replacement hotel specifically to 1928, stating that it cost £10,000 and was designed by architect G. W. Pettigrew of Pitt and Morrow. 

The Bayview Hotel remains at 166–170 Victoria Road, Gladesville, continuing a hotel tradition on the site that stretches back more than 145 years.
