John Kelly, 1869–1921
DESCRIPTION
John Kelly (1869–1921) was a Ryde businessman, hairdresser, alderman and Mayor of Ryde. He served on Ryde Municipal Council from at least 1909 and was Mayor from 1915 to 1920. A prominent local figure during the First World War years, Kelly remained closely associated with the civic life of Ryde until his death on 19 December 1921. His death was noted by the local press as the loss of one of Ryde's best-known and esteemed residents.
