Sydney Albert Benson, 1863–1949
DESCRIPTION
Sydney Albert Benson was a lifelong Ryde resident, alderman, orchardist, and civic leader who served as Mayor of Ryde in 1907.
Benson was born in Ryde on 17 August 1863 and died there on 7 May 1949, spending virtually his entire life in the district. He was buried in Field of Mars Cemetery.
He came from the well-known Benson family, an early Ryde family associated with orcharding and landholding in the district. The family is linked with North Ryde orchards, local government service, and the property Warrellda
