Denistone House

Denistone House was built as an imposing stone residence in 1872 by Richard Rouse Terry and his wife Emma Terry.  Richard was the grandson of wealthy convict Samuel Terry, and brother of Edward Terry the first mayor of Ryde.

In 1913 the house and 17 acres of its land was acquired by the NSW Government as a convalescent hospital for men. In 1934 it became the Ryde District Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. For many decades Denistone House was the hospital's maternity wing.
