War houses
DETAILS
Collection SummaryAfter World War I some houses in the Ryde and Eastwood municipalities were given names that reflected their owners' association with the war. Examples include the names of battlefields; the name of the ship that took a serviceman to the war; the name of the ship that brought a serviceman home from the war; the name of the serviceman himself.
This collection consists of photographs of the houses that were identified in a survey conducted in 2018.
The research associated with that survey was published in "Ryde's World War I house names: homes for the living and memorials to the dead" by Angela Phippen, then Local Studies and Family HIstory Librarian at City of Ryde
