First World War memorial, Meadowbank

PHOTOGRAPH DETAILS

DescriptionObelisk and honour roll enclosed in a garden plot surrounded by a rock wall in Memorial Park near the corner of Bank Street and Meadowbank Crescent, Meadowbank. The obelisk was erected in 1921 "for King and country" by "the residents of Meadowbank and West Ryde in honour of those who fell and fought in the Great War 1914-1919". The honour roll on one face of the obelisk commemorates those who fell and fought at Gallipoli and a second roll commemorates those who fell and fought in France. A third face carried the date 1921 in Roman numerals and the fourth face gives details of the erection, as explained above.
Plaque on this face reads: For king and country; erected by residents of Meadowbank and West Ryde in honour of those who fell and fought in the Great War 1914-1919.
