Ryde Council Housing Scheme

The Ryde Council Housing Scheme was an innovative post-war housing initiative started in 1946 by the City of Ryde Council to address post-war housing shortages by constructing 593 homes and six shops, while also providing funding for 400 ratepayers to build cottages on their own land. The scheme was a forward-thinking effort to supply affordable, individual housing and is still visible in Ryde's suburbs today.
