Ryde Library
DESCRIPTION
Ryde's first municipal library, a "Central library," was built and opened on December 4, 1946, in a shopfront at 89 Blaxland Road, Ryde. The library's first librarian was a staff of three and 3,000 books were available for borrowing. The library moved to a new location at 1 Devlin Street in 1949.
Ryde Library moved from the Ryde Civic Centre in 2011 to a new space within the Top Ryde City Shopping Centre. This move was part of the larger redevelopment of the Top Ryde Shopping Centre and preceded the eventual closure and demolition of the Civic Centre itself, which staff vacated in 2015
