Len's ancestors (John Small and Mark Small nee Parker) were First Fleet convicts. The Small family has been associated with the Ryde area for over 200 years. In this interview Len recalls his early life in Herring Road, Marsfield and the effects of World War I and the Depression on his family and the local residents.
As a member of a very old Ryde family, he provides interesting stories from his father which go back to the 1880s including the construction of the railway through Eastwood
