Ryde Wesley Uniting Church
Methodist witness began in Ryde in 1817 when Mr James Shepherd started a Sunday School in Dowdle's Barn. Services were held in homes until the First Kissing Point Methodist Church was opened on 11 September 1821. The Methodist Church was the second church in the district and the sandstone chapel, now a hall at the rear of the site, was opened in 1849. Between 1871 and 1879, the chapel served as Council Chambers.
A new sandstone church was opened in 1870, the first resident minister settled in 1882 and the George H. Trevitt Memorial Hall was opened in 1933.
Today, the Church is known as the Ryde Wesley Uniting Church and at one time or another the premises has also been home to the International School of Music, Salvation Army Korean Corps, Ryde Korean SDA Church and the Sydney Jireh Presbyterian Church.
