Granny Smith Festival, 2008
The 2008 Granny Smith Festival was held on Saturday 18 October.
Throughout the day there was an international food fair, street performers, carnival rides and 280 market stalls.
There were six stages for the day’s entertainment which included 60 acts. These were the Trelawney Street Stage, the Plaza Stage, The Core, Singing Star Stage, Eastwood Oval Stage and the Roundabout Stage. Choirs, bands, dancers, physical culture clubs, guitars ensembles, Chinese Lion Dance performers were some of the acts.
The parade, which kicked off at 10 am, began in Eastwood Park and travelled along Lakeside Road, Glen Street, Shaftsbury Road, Rowe Street and back towards Lakeside Road. It included 43 different parade groups including marching bands, pipe bands, concert bands, vintage cars and it wouldn’t be a Granny Smith parade without a float with Granny and her garden.
The concert at the Eastwood Oval stage on Saturday night was the Elton John Experience, described as one of the best shows to sing along to from Crocodile Rock, to Candle in the Wind, and many more. The fireworks spectacular started at 8 pm.
