Granny Smith Festival, 2004
The 2004 Granny Smith Festival was held on Saturday 16 October.
The grand parade commenced at 10am. Throughout the day there was a food fair, roving acts, animal farm, carnival rides and 300 market stalls.
There were three stages for the day’s entertainment: Trelawney Street Stage, the Plaza Stage, and the Eastwood Oval stage.
Club and school bands provided entertainment with many dancing displays by groups such as Truscott Street Dance Group, Upstage Performing Arts, The Edge Ballet Academy, North Ryde Dance Ensemble and Honeybrook School of Dancing as well as Irish, Scottish and Colonial dance. Chinese Cultural Dance and Falun Gong exercise as well as Chinese and Australian Baptist Church performed.
Dorothy the Dinosaur (but not the Wiggles) appeared live on stage and the concert at night in the Park was Abbalanche, the Australian Abba Show, followed by a Fireworks spectacular.
An innovation of this year’s festival was The Core: an alcohol and drug free event at the Hillview land carpark and Eastwood Hall.
In the morning, at the Eastwood Upper Oval, was the Granny Smith Festival Gift Race.
