Granny Smith Festival, 1999
The 1999 Granny Smith Festival parade was held on Saturday 16 October and was part of a week of activities which included a civic church service on Sunday 17 October at St Anne’s Church.
There were 45 acts on four stages including a new area termed the Hillview Avenue stage. The Trelawney Street stage and Plaza stage hosted a variety of acts throughout the day including aerobic demonstrations, dance groups, school bands and cultural groups including Te-Kotuku Maori Culture Group and “Gzhel” Russian Dance and Spoon Act. The Hillview Avenue stage featured skateboarding demonstrations, a graffiti artist, Paralympic basketball demos, breakdancers and the 2RRR band.
275 stalls lined Rowe Street, Progress Avenue, The Avenue and Eastwood Oval.
Throughout the days there were camel rides, an animal farm, international food fair, circus playground and face painting. Batlow Fruit Co-Op gave away apples and sold trays of apples from three locations throughout the site.
A new attraction was wine and beer tasting at Liquor land in Progress Avenue.
The day concluded with a family concert which featured the Family von Trapp and fireworks at Eastwood Oval.
