Council minutes of 28 October 1887 recorded correspondence to J S Farnell stating that his (Farnell’s) seat on Council had become vacant due to non-attendance

(7) Ald. Jackson resigned office of Mayor by letter of 31 October 1887, minuted 4 November 1887 but he did not resign from Council
(8) Ald. Jackson was elected Mayor at a Special meeting on 8 February 1887
Ald. Jackson tried to resign as Mayor. A Special meeting was called on 17 May 1887 to elect a new Mayor. However, at that meeting Jackson’s resignation was ruled informal as it was not signed. At a Special meeting of 3 June 1887, correspondence to Ald. Jackson explaining that fact was listed

The Municipality of Ryde and the Municipality of Eastwood amalgamated on 1 January 1949.
Aldermen were elected for three years but in the first few years of the Council one alderman from each ward was obliged to resign, determined by who had received the least votes at the first election. Thereafter, as their three year term expired, the aldermen would retire but could seek re-election.
