Granny Smith Festival, 1996
The 1996 Granny Smith grand parade was held on Saturday 19 October, at the conclusion of a week of Granny-related activities.
An ‘All for children’ event was held on 12 October at Top Ryde Shopping Centre; a youth talent quest on Sunday 13 October at Eastwood Shopping Centre. West Ryde held a market day on Thursday 17 October and Gladesville met Granny on Friday 18 October.
There were many sponsors of the festival, including the Eastwood Korean Chamber of Commerce.
The procession started in Eastwood Park and travelled along Lakeside Drive, Glen Street, Shaftsbury Road, Rowe Street, The Avenue, Progress Avenue and back to Eastwood Park.
There were three stages for the day’s entertainment: Trelawney Street Stage, the Plaza Stage and the Eastwood Park stage.
Rowe Street had 200 craft and food stalls and for the first time in the festival’s history, there were stalls on the lower oval at Eastwood Park.
The day concluded with a bush dance and fireworks.
