In Sydney Morning Herald 21 November 1895 p6 there was reference to a meeting of the Council held to elect a Mayor in place of Fitzhardinge who had resigned. There was a motion regretting Fitzhardinge’s retirement from the position. At that meeting Ald. Lovell was elected Mayor. Report of farewell function in Evening News 7 December 1895 p2. From this it appears Fitzhardinge served out his term as an alderman
