Granny Smith Festival, 1992
1992 marked a significant change in the Granny Smith Festival. There was no longer a Family Gala Day centred on Top Ryde and for the first year, the street procession, entertainment and fireworks were held at Eastwood, at the conclusion of the festival.
It began on Sunday 18 October with a service at St Anne’s Church, followed by a Ryde Bicentenary Garden Party. 1992 was the 200th anniversary of the first land grants in what would later become the Ryde Local Government Area and there were many activities around this commemoration.
Saturday 24 October was the conclusion of the festival and included the street procession which travelled from Eastwood Oval, Glen Street, Shaftsbury Road and Rowe Street. There were three stages set up: in the plaza, Trelawney Street and in Rowe Street, outside Eastwood Public School.
There were over 160 market stalls, apple baking competitions and many activities associated with the Ryde Bicentenary. A family entertainment evening held in the night at Eastwood Oval featured high school and the NSW Railway Band. The night concluded with fireworks.
