Granny Smith Festival, 1990
The innovation of the 1990 festival was the introduction of fireworks, ‘for the first time ever’.

Entertainment throughout the afternoon in the plaza, Trelawney Street and Masonic Hall included performances by bands, schools, colonial and folk dancing, Scottish dancers as well as the Chinese and Australian Baptist Church Variety Show. The Eastwood Centre hosted an historical display and a Food & Wine Fair.
The Family Gala Day, which was the conclusion of the festival, took place on Saturday 22 September at Top Ryde Shopping Centre. There were timetabled performances of aerobic dancing, martial arts as well as two apple pie eating competitions.
The week of the festival was filled with a variety of activities including a church service at St Anne’s Church, historical photo display, story-telling festival and many community events.
The Civic Hall hosted a Granny Smith Ball on Friday 28 September with music provided by Chain Reaction.
