A festival was held in September/October 1958 which consisted of an apple pie competition, a procession along Rowe Street at which a boy of eight had his right leg broken when a bolting horse knocked him down, and an orchid exhibition.
Granny herself distributed apples to children as part of the festival.
The Glen Street Reserve was used for car parking on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 October 1958 as these days were ‘special shopping days’ in connection with the Granny Smith Festival.
