Top Ryde City
Top Ryde City was constructed on the site of the former shopping centre which had been known variously as Top Ryde Regional Shopping Centre, Top Ryde Shopping Square or Top Ryde Shopping Centre. That centre, originally built in 1957, had undergone many extensions and renovations before it was demolished in July 2007.
The new centre was built in three stages.
Stage 1 opened on 5 November 2009 and consisted of around 115 stores on the Tucker Street side of the development. Stage 2 was completed and opened in March 2010 and included 60 speciality stores as well as the first section of La Strada. Stage 3 was completed by August 2010.
The official opening took place on 20 August 2010 by the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.
The final works which included the new Ryde Library and Ryde Planning and Business Centre opened the following year.
